About AIREI
AIREI is a Los Angeles-based fashion label founded by designer Drew Curry during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. The brand’s name, derived from a Greek word meaning both “to lift up” and “to cut away,” reflects its philosophy of embracing imperfection and highlighting the human touch in its creations.
Curry’s journey into fashion was unconventional. He grew up in Tacoma, Washington, and initially planned to pursue architecture. However, his passion for clothing led him to Los Angeles, where he worked with denim expert Adriano Goldschmied and consulted for brands like John Elliott, James Perse, and Tom Ford. Seeking a deeper connection to design, Curry took a position at Dover Street Market LA, which profoundly influenced his perspective on fashion retail and design.
The inception of AIREI occurred during the pandemic when Curry found himself with time to introspect and create. He questioned his creative direction, asking, “What do I really want to say?” This introspection led to the development of AIREI’s first collection, which was subsequently picked up by Dover Street Market.
AIREI’s designs are characterized by their emphasis on craftsmanship, utilizing handwoven Indian khadi fabric and showcasing raw, hand-stitched finishes. Each garment carries the signature of the artisan who completed it, underscoring the brand’s commitment to the human element in fashion. Curry’s approach reflects a desire to celebrate imperfection and the ephemeral nature of life through clothing.
The brand has garnered attention from notable figures in the music industry, with artists like Kendrick Lamar, Bad Bunny, and Billie Eilish donning AIREI pieces. Additionally, AIREI was recognized as a semi-finalist in the 2022 LVMH Prize, highlighting its growing influence in the fashion world.
Through its dedication to authenticity and the human touch, AIREI continues to carve a unique path in contemporary fashion, inviting wearers to engage deeply with the stories woven into each garment.
