DEVOA
DEVOA is a Japanese fashion label founded by designer Daisuke Nishida, known for an approach to clothing that combines anatomical research, experimental pattern construction and an exceptional focus on materials. ACRONYM
After a decade consulting for a variety of technical sportswear brands including the revival of Nike’s once-dormant ACG line, Michaela Sachenbacher and Errolson Hugh deployed their cumulative knowledge in 2002 with the release of their label ACRONYM. Combining functional and intelligent design with boundary-pushing aesthetics, ACRONYM fosters an uncompromising sense of style that stretches the boundaries between fashion and technology.
D.Hygen
D.HYGEN (formerly also known under the name Saddam Teissy) was established in Osaka in 2015 and started its brand in the 2016-17 AW Collection by two male designers (Information not made public). In addition to participating in exhibitions in Japan, the 2019 SS of D.Hygen also participated in the Paris men’s Collection. The leather products and tailored jackets are positioned as signature items of the brand, and the decadent and dignified work using the original developed material is highly evaluated in Japan and overseas. Based on the brand concept of “STRAINISM”, this item proposes addictive real clothes with a unique aesthetic sense that disassembles and reconstructs basic styles and sometimes turns negative images into beauty, with the theme of a product that gives a sense of tension and uplifting to the wearer as well as the creator himself. The development of new leather, the detailed and thorough tailoring technique by skilled craftsmen, and the hard and cold look of the original metal fittings made of iron also emphasize tensionism. D.Hygen – the clue is hidden in the proverb “HAI_-GEN” – of a human being controlled by string but turns the situation to his advantage by taking control of invisible strings of life.
The Viridi-Anne
The Viridi-Anne is a Japanese menswear label founded in Tokyo in 2001 by designer Tomoaki Okaniwa. Recognized for its dark palette, intricate pattern cutting, tactile fabrics and controlled approach to volume, the label occupies a distinct position within Japanese avant-garde fashion. Its clothing is often quiet at first encounter. The complexity emerges through construction: displaced seams, layered panels, elongated proportions, asymmetric cuts and fabrics whose surfaces carry evidence of washing, dyeing, creasing and wear.
Julius
The label “Julius” was founded in Tokyo in 2001 by Tatsuro Horikawa as a means of presenting film projects, the Julius label eventually developed its clothing line in 2004. Nevertheless, the original art idea remained and is now reflected, for example, in dark colors. Using black and grey as the main components of every collection – symbols of madness and pain, respectively – the label centers around Horikawa’s love of art and architecture, which were integral to the brand’s initial formation as an art project. The oversized cuts of the clothes and accessories show a contemporary bohemian style.
Forme D’expression
Forme D’expression is a fashion label designed by the female designer Koeun Park. She was born in Seoul and studied Haute Couture workmanship at the Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la mode Parisienne, Paris, before becoming a Master at Instituto Marangoni in Milan in 1998. Originally from Korea, she now resides and works in Perugia, Italy where she started the Forme D’Expression in 2005. Koeun is known for her soft tailoring and elegant silhouettes. The meticulous approach to construction, followed by many layers of post-work exemplifies the brand’s philosophy of having the clothing be real, and familiar even before the wearer slips the garment on. Her women’s and men’s collections are created with a full wardrobe in mind and cater to men and women who appreciate luxury in subtlety. Quietly elegant and real, the label aims to create different forms of human expression through fashion. With outwardly classic designs at first glance, her pieces hold intricate craftsmanship and attention to detail that brings contemporary style to the forefront. Forme D’expression is a uniquely quiet design structure that gives women and men’s luxury street fashion a subtle breath of fresh air.
