2023/24 Werkstatt:München Jewelry Collection COME TOGETHER, RIGHT NOW (taken from the album “Abbey Road” by The Beatles)
These days, nothing is more needed than to unite: to bridge the gaps between black and white, natural and artificial, individual and uniform, men and women, polarizing ideologies in general. We all have to get closer again!
The mathematical symbol for uniting/combining is the +, in electricity the + stands for the positive pole. Capturing this symbolism, the basic line of the collection is fully dedicated to the idea of uniting, reuniting and being positive in its literal meaning. Therefore, WERKSTATT:MÜNCHEN has formed a range of tools – hammers, mills, anvils -, engraved with various + signs to play with one of the oldest, universally known symbols.
Due to its symmetry, the + is emphasizing the positive energy and the idea of connecting in the current collection. You’ll find pattern rings, bracelets and a keyring as well as plates bearing an especially developed + pattern.
Driven to add another visual aspect of this concept, we picked the Beatles’ song title capturing the essence of the + perfectly in words: “Come together”. This appeal was engraved in mills or stamped directly into the jewelry’s surface, sometimes wildly mixing with + signs.
Symbolically “coming together” are also a square filed, chunky chain link and a ring, soldered into one another. Two obviously different elements are hence united in a series of bracelets, necklaces, and earrings.
Besides the + line, the 2023 collection is recapturing the journey theme: we still feel a major desire for freedom and travelling. Consequently, the palm tree came to mind, being a universal symbol for freedom, peace, luck, and “permanent vacation”. With well-balanced proportions, it adorns otherwise rather plain and raw bracelets, necklaces, and a ring, playfully contrasting the clear structures of the silver chains and surfaces with the delicate shape of the palm tree.
The third branch of this year’s work is again dedicated to non-figurative, clear pieces, following our approach to create timeless jewelry. With its very reduced, clean appearance, each piece is ready to be filled with personal meaning and the individual history of the wearer. We created necklaces, earrings and bracelets with shiny, hand forged surfaces opposing delicate round silver wire. Most remarkably, the line contains a wide pure silver “sheet” ring, being lighter and present at the same time.
Adding a new tool to our silver ware, WERKSTATT:MÜNCHEN also developed a spoon without handle to scoop tea or sugar with a special eccentric shape, each piece being hand forged.
Let’s come together!
